Event Name: Rocky Mountain Society for Music Theory Annual Meeting

Event Description and Information:

This is a reminder that the annual meeting of the Rocky Mountain Chapter of the American Musicological Society, the Southwest Chapter of the Society for Ethnomusicology, and the Rocky Mountain Society for Music Theory will take place on Friday and Saturday, March 30th and 31st, 2007, at the School of Music at Arizona State University, Tempe, Arizona. The meeting times are ca. 9:00 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. both days, with lunch on your own on Friday and a group lunch (Mexican buffet) on Saturday.

Post-meeting events:
1) Yaqui Indian Lenten activities (Friday and Saturday all night)
2) Traditional Latin Mass Palm Sunday procession and Mass (ca. 1:00 PM-3:30 PM Sunday) For more information on these events please contact Richard Haefer.

Sing Joyfully: Music of the Jewish Tradition Saturday, March 31, 7:30 p.m.
Katzin Concert Hall, ASU Tempe campus
ASU Chamber Singers, David Schildkret conductor, and ASU faculty members Judy May, mezzo-soprano, Thomas Landschoot, cello, and Robert Hamilton, piano. Exploring music inspired by Jewish worship and daily life from the Renaissance to the present. The program features the premiere of ASU composer Jody Rockmaker’s Yiddish Choruses and includes works by Salamone Rossi, Eric Whitacre, and Judith Zaimont in addition to pieces by Bloch and Bernstein.

Proposal Instructions / Guidelines:

We have already received many offers of papers, but there is still room on the program for more. In accordance with the traditions of the chapters, papers will be limited to twenty minutes. Submissions are welcome from every member of the societies, but we do ask that any student proposal be accompanied by an e-mail of approval from a supervising faculty member.

We are extending the deadline for proposals to Friday, February 23rd.
Please send title, your name as it should appear on the program, institutional affiliation, e-mail address, phone number, AV equipment needs, and an abstract of at most 250 words, suitable for publication in the abstract booklet.

Electronic submission: E-mail attachments in Microsoft Word format are preferred. Send AMS proposals to Amy.Holbrook@asu.edu; SEM proposals to J.Richard.Haefer@asu.edu; and SMT proposals to Ellon.Carpenter@asu.edu.
